The California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) issued a required reporting request on April 27 to all state-chartered credit unions regarding mortgage forbearance relief provided in response to the Los Angeles-area wildfires.
This data request is tied to legislative oversight following the Assembly Committee on Banking and Finance’s review of Assembly Bill 238 (2025). The DFPI is collecting information on “LA wildfire-related forbearance” to better understand how financial institutions supported impacted borrowers and to inform policymakers as recovery efforts continue.
If your credit union has not already done so, please complete the DFPI survey no later than May 4 by 5 p.m. (Pacific).
The survey was distributed directly by DFPI via email on April 27. If your credit union did not receive it or need assistance accessing it, please contact the DFPI directly.
For questions, state-chartered credit unions can email the DFPI.
Given the legislative interest driving this request, timely and complete responses are important. The DFPI has also indicated that follow-up requests for additional detail may occur.
If you have any questions or are encountering challenges completing the survey, please feel free to reach out to Lisa Quaranta, vice president of regulatory advocacy for California’s Credit Unions.
Thank you for your prompt attention and continued commitment to supporting your members impacted by the wildfires.
