Whether they offer access to gyms, fitness classes, wellness apps, company-paid lunches, sports days, team events, paid volunteer time, or a host of other perks, eight credit unions across California and Nevada have earned national acclaim for their workplace cultures.

Seven credit unions in California and one in Nevada were recently named to American Banker’s annual ranking of the Best Credit Unions to Work For in 2026:

  • Altura Credit Union (California)
  • BluPeak Credit Union (California)
  • Eagle Community Credit Union (California)
  • Golden 1 Credit Union (California)
  • North Bay Credit Union (California)
  • OceanAir Federal Credit Union (California)
  • One Nevada Credit Union (Nevada)
  • Valley First Credit Union (California)

Produced with Best Companies Group, this 2026 list honors 70 credit unions across the nation, ranging in size from smaller institutions with under 30 employees to larger organizations with over 3,000 staff members.

“Americans don’t feel great about work these days. At the end of 2025, more than half of U.S. workers wanted to leave their jobs, according to one recent Gallup poll,” the article states. “But at credit unions, the vibe is different. Credit-union employees across the country are quite happy with their employers.”

The article says that at a time when Gallup data shows more than half of U.S. workers want to leave their jobs, credit unions stand out. Eighty-nine percent of these credit union employees surveyed report positive feelings about their workplace environment, 87 percent express confidence in leadership, and 91 percent report strong relationships with their supervisors.

Beyond generous practical benefits like robust 401(k) matches and tuition reimbursement, these credit unions demonstrate that prioritizing employee wellbeing, shared purpose, and vibrant workplace perks creates resilient, highly engaged teams.
