California credit union representatives recently joined Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove for an exclusive housing fireside chat and panel discussion focused on the future of housing affordability in the greater Los Angeles region.
The event brought together policymakers, housing advocates, and community stakeholders to discuss the potential impact of the proposed 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act and explore strategies to address the region’s housing challenges.
The conversation featured Kamlager-Dove, former Acting U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Adrianne Todman, and a panel of housing experts who highlighted the need for increased housing supply, streamlined development processes, and stronger public-private partnerships to meet growing demand.
For credit unions, the discussion reinforced the important role cooperative financial institutions play in expanding access to affordable homeownership and supporting community development. As mission-driven lenders, credit unions continue to help members achieve financial stability through responsible mortgage lending, first-time homebuyer programs, financial education, and partnerships that strengthen local communities.
The event provided valuable insight into federal housing policy priorities and underscored the importance of ensuring that community-based financial institutions have a seat at the table as lawmakers consider solutions to California’s housing affordability crisis.
