President Donald Trump has designated John Crews as chair of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) board following his confirmation by the U.S. Senate.
Crews was sworn in on Monday as the 14th chair of the NCUA Board and will serve a term through August 2031.
During his June 25 confirmation hearing before the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Crews outlined several priorities he would bring to the agency, including:
Crews brings significant financial services policy and regulatory experience to the NCUA. Most recently, he served as deputy assistant secretary for financial institutions policy at the U.S. Treasury Department, where he focused on financial regulation, infrastructure, and safety and soundness matters. He previously served as a policy advisor to House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, policy director for the Senate Banking Committee, and special assistant to the president for economic policy at the National Economic Council during Trump’s first administration.
California’s Credit Unions and Nevada’s Credit Unions have already had an opportunity to engage with Crews. Earlier this year, while serving as deputy assistant secretary at the Treasury Department, Crews met with credit union leaders from California and Nevada during America’s Credit Unions’ Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) in Washington, D.C. The discussion provided an opportunity to raise key regulatory priorities and issues facing credit unions and establish an important relationship ahead of his transition to the NCUA.
The California and Nevada leagues congratulate Crews and look forward to continue working with him and the NCUA as he begins his tenure.
