CUs Sweep National and Local ‘Best Of’ Honors Over Past Year

A wave of recognition is sweeping through California and Nevada as 11 credit unions secure national and regional rankings and “Reader’s Choice” awards. From Newsweek’s countrywide lists to winning streaks in local communities, these accolades spotlight how consumers are prioritizing member-centric service, community roots, and exceptional workplace cultures.

The national stage was set by Newsweek, which recently released its “America’s Best Regional Credit Unions 2026” and “America’s Best Credit Unions” lists.

Redwood Credit Union demonstrated consistency, earning the Newsweek honor for the third consecutive year. Joining them in the national spotlight, Provident Credit Union was named one of the nation’s best following a rigorous study involving 66,000 customer surveys. Meanwhile, Clark County Credit Union distinguished itself as a Nevada-headquartered institution to make the Newsweek 2026 list, a testament to its standing in the Silver State.

The recognition extended to corporate excellence as well, with Golden 1 Credit Union achieving a “crossover” success. Golden 1 was not only recognized on Forbes’ “Best-In-State Credit Unions” list but also earned a spot on the “America’s Dream Employers 2026” list, emphasizing the link between a happy workforce and member service.

In Central California, Educational Employees Credit Union continues an unprecedented legacy, marking its 19th consecutive year as the “Best Credit Union” in the Fresno Bee’s Best of Central California Awards. Further south, Frontwave Credit Union achieved a sweep of North County San Diego and the Morongo Basin, where it has been voted “Best Bank” for five straight years.

In the tech-heavy corridors of Northern California, SF Fire Credit Union was voted “Best of Bay Area” by SFGATE for the second year running, while Excite Credit Union secured the title of “Best Credit Union in Silicon Valley” for a second consecutive year. Excite also earned national “Best of the Best” honors from MemberXP for its innovative new member experience.

PremierOne Credit Union announced it has been recognized as one of America’s Best Regional Banks and Credit Unions 2026, an honor awarded in partnership with Plant-A Insights Group. This award recognizes PremierOne Credit Union’s impact and commitment to delivering exceptional member satisfaction and trust, driven by personalized service, strong local relationships and delivering a better financial life to their members. Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group recognized companies that are committed to powering local economies by supporting small businesses, financing community projects and providing reliable access to everyday banking services.

Additionally, Nevada’s financial services scene once again saw familiar faces at the top. Greater Nevada Credit Union was recognized in the Northern Nevada Business Weekly’s Best in Business Awards and secured its fourth consecutive “Best Credit Union” win from the Reno News & Review.

The recent honors also shed light on the internal cultures driving these external successes. Clark County Credit Union was celebrated by Energage for “Culture Excellence” with a specific nod to employee appreciation, while Educational Employees Credit Union added a Silver Award for “Best Place to Work” to its trophy case.

The scale of this regional impact was also reflected in the LA Times “Top 25 Credit Unions” list, which highlights the massive role Southern California’s largest credit unions play as economic engines. By ranking the top 25 cooperatives by asset size and membership, the report spotlights how credit unions are outperforming traditional banking competitors in key growth metrics — as well as remaining important pillars of the economy.

By combining stability with a commitment to communities, these credit unions — and so many others across California and Nevada — are helping set the standard for the “people helping people” model.
