Eagle Community Credit Union recently ramped up the fight against local food insecurity. The credit union partnered with the Feed SoCal food drive for the 15th year, kicking off the event with a $5,000 donation — an amount funding 20,000 meals for families in need.
In addition, Eagle transformed local branches into collection hubs, gathering non-perishable food items from staff and members to support the cause.
The credit union noted on its website that this yearly initiative arrives at a critical time as food insecurity continues climbing. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), 13.5 percent of households nationwide — roughly 18 million families — experienced food insecurity in 2023.
The USDA has also reported that 17.9 percent of households with children face food insecurity, meaning millions of kids lack consistent access to nutritious meals. Data from Feeding America highlights that one-in-five children in the United States lives in a food-insecure household.
By working together to stock the shelves of local food pantries, Eagle Community and its neighbors are aiming to build a stronger, hunger-free community.
“At Eagle, we believe community starts with people helping people,” the credit union stated in a post on LinkedIn, which includes a local ABC-7 spotlight story. “We’re grateful for every opportunity to serve.”
