The skies over Reno, NV once again filled with color in early September as the Great Reno Balloon Race returned to Rancho San Rafael Regional Park from September 5–7.
Known as the world’s largest free hot-air ballooning event, the race draws more than 100 balloons and thousands of spectators each year.
One of the most beloved traditions of the event is the Tissue Paper Balloon Launch, where Washoe County 5th graders build and fly miniature balloons made from colorful tissue paper. This year, the program expanded to a two-day event, giving even more students the opportunity to participate.
On Friday, September 5, volunteers from Greater Nevada Credit Union, along with partners Tesla, Safe Routes to School, and United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra, were on the launch field to guide students and help ensure their balloons take flight.
This hands-on STEM activity not only sparks creativity and curiosity but also builds community connections.
Greater Nevada Credit Union is proud to support this uplifting experience for local students as part of its ongoing commitment to education and community engagement.
