San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU) hosted its annual SDCCU Stuff the Bus campaign to raise monetary donations to purchase back-to-school supplies for students experiencing homelessness in partnership with the San Diego County Office of Education and iHeartMedia.
This year, in addition to the online and in-branch collections, SDCCU has partnered with the Hoehn Family of Dealerships to support students in need. In late July, Hoehn matched every donation made, dollar-for-dollar, up to $5,000.
“We are grateful for the Hoehn Family of Dealerships’ partnership in helping us expand the impact of SDCCU Stuff the Bus,” said Teresa Campbell, CEO of SDCCU. “Their generous matching gift inspires our community to give even more and help set these students up for success in the new school year.”
More than 24,000 school-age children were identified as experiencing homelessness during the last school year. Homelessness for school-age children can mean living in a shelter, sharing a residence with multiple families, living in a car or trailer in San Diego County, or sharing a room in an apartment with relatives.
Homelessness is not limited to urban, downtown San Diego — it also affects suburban school districts all over the county.
The community was able to donate at all SDCCU branch locations and online through the end of July. Donations were matched by Hoehn Family of Dealerships.
