Throughout the holiday season, the need for food assistance grows across neighborhoods and communities. The team at Provident Credit Union has stepped up to ensure its neighbors aren’t just cared for, but truly fed.
Recently, credit union volunteers took to the community to support two local organizations: Samaritan House and Second Harvest of Silicon Valley — turning teamwork into hundreds of meals for those in need.
In San Mateo, the Provident team focused on the personal touch. Volunteers spent the day hand-making sandwiches and packing lunch bags, delivering 295 lunches to Samaritan House.
Samaritan House is a pillar of the community, working to preserve dignity and provide hope through health care, shelter, and food programs. The lunches prepared by Provident team members were immediately put to work and distributed to shelter guests, provided to walk-in clients, and delivered to the front doors of homebound neighbors.
Provident Credit Union is grateful to play even a small role in ensuring local families have reliable access to nutritious, ready-to-eat meals.
The credit union’s outreach extended further into the heart of the region when it joined Second Harvest of Silicon Valley for the organization’s monthly food distribution. In a single afternoon of service, Provident volunteers helped distribute groceries to more than 350 families.
Second Harvest is a vital lifeline in Silicon Valley, making nutritious food accessible through a network of community partnerships. With the holidays placing extra strain on household budgets, being on the ground to help bridge that gap for seniors and families was a profound reminder of what Provident and its volunteers can achieve when everyone comes together.
The credit union’s commitment to ending hunger doesn’t stop at these volunteer events. Provident has invited members and others in the community to join the credit union in making an even larger impact through the Share the Harvest Food Drive, which is currently underway.
To amplify contributors’ generosity, Provident has matched donations up to $3,000. Additionally, if a member of the community is inspired to give of his or her time, the credit union encourages them to visit the volunteer calendars at Samaritan House and Second Harvest to find upcoming opportunities.
Provident Credit Union wants give a heartfelt “thank you” to its dedicated volunteers for showing up with care and teamwork. Together, they are doing more than just giving back — they are nourishing the broader community.
