California Credit Union and its foundation are kicking off 2026 by reaffirming their deep commitment to Southern California communities. Through a successful holiday toy drive in partnership with the Los Angeles Boys and Girls Club and the launch of its annual student scholarship program, the credit union is focusing its resources on empowering the next generation from the classroom to the community center.
The holiday season saw California Credit Union partner with the Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club to deliver over 335 new toys and gifts to local children. The month-long drive, which took place across branch locations in Los Angeles County, was fueled by donations from the credit union’s employees and members.
The gifts were distributed during a festive celebration on December 16, reaching families across Northeast Los Angeles. Credit union volunteers were on the ground during the event to help organize the distribution and share in the holiday spirit.
“At California Credit Union, supporting our community is especially meaningful during the holidays,” said California Credit Union President and CEO Steve O’Connell. “Partnering with the Los Angeles Boys and Girls Club allows us to help bring joy and a sense of celebration to local children and their families. Our employees care deeply about making a difference, and this toy drive is a wonderful opportunity to share that spirit.”
While the holiday drive addressed immediate needs, the California Credit Union Foundation is simultaneously looking toward the future of local students. The foundation has officially opened applications for its 2026 Student Scholarship Program, which awards $20,000 in scholarships annually.
The program offers $1,000 scholarships to college-bound high school seniors and community college students transferring to four-year universities. Since the program’s inception in 2005, the credit union has awarded more than $455,000 in financial aid to outstanding students.
“Education has always been at the heart of our mission, and these scholarships are one way we invest directly in the potential of our local students,” said California Credit Union Foundation President Marvel Ford. “We’re proud to support college-bound students who demonstrate academic commitment, leadership, and a desire to give back to their communities.”

The dual initiatives highlight California Credit Union’s mission to foster growth and stability within the regions it serves. Whether through the Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club — which provides vital programming in gang prevention, wellness, and the arts — or through direct financial support for higher education, the credit union remains a cornerstone of Southern California community advocacy.
