Parishioners Federal Credit Union, the largest Catholic-affiliated credit union in California, celebrated a milestone on October 14 with a Re-Grand Opening event, highlighted by a special blessing from Los Angeles Archbishop Jose H. Gomez.
The event was not only a celebration of the remodel, but an affirmation of the credit union’s mission. Parishioners’ newly transformed space reflects its dual commitment to honoring the faith, values, and service inherent to the Catholic community while investing in modern tools and technology to serve its members more efficiently and meaningfully.
Since its founding in 1961 by Monsignor J. Augustine O’Gorman of St. James Parish (Redondo Beach, CA), Parishioners was established on the principle that a member-owned cooperative could understand and share its parishioners’ financial needs better than any commercial bank.
Today, the credit union’s mission is to be the preferred financial partner for the Catholic community and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. This partnership was emphasized by two acts of dedication and generosity at the opening event. The credit union dedicated its remodeled boardroom to Archbishop Gomez, a tribute to his leadership, faith, and unwavering service.
Aditionally, as a symbol of this deep commitment, the credit union presented a significant $100,000 gift to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
“As a sign of deep respect and gratitude, we dedicated our boardroom to the archbishop, a leader who embodies faith, humility, and unwavering service to the Catholic community,” said Alen Torosyan, president and CEO of Parishioners Federal Credit Union. “The gift symbolizes the enduring partnership and shared commitment to serving God’s people.”
The credit union also reaffirmed its dedication to Catholic education. Parishioners, which serves more than 200 schools and close to 100 parishes and church-related organizations throughout Southern California, presented a separate $10,000 gift to the Catholic Education Foundation. This donation will support scholarships for families in need within the San Pedro Pastoral Region, an area where the credit union has enjoyed steady growth and extended service since 1982.
Parishioners believes that by strengthening education, it strengthens faith, families, and futures across the community.
“We are grateful to everyone who joined us in celebrating this new chapter,” Torosyan said. “It’s a moment that reflects not just where we are, but where we are going as a credit union rooted in faith, service, and love for our community.”
