The California Credit Union League has activated Connect For The Cause (CFTC) to oppose the interchange legislation proposed in Sacramento this week — Assembly Bill 1065, authored by Assemblymember Liz Ortega.
As a reminder, AB 1065 would prohibit interchange from being charged on the sales tax and tip portion of a transaction. The bill is scheduled for its first hearing on April 8 in the California Assembly Judiciary Committee.
Please have as many credit union leaders and professionals as possible register for the California Government Relations Rally (GRR) to oppose the bill in person in Sacramento next week before its hearing so the League can gain momentum. Please share this Oppose AB 1065 (CFTC) link with your staff and volunteers and encourage your team to act today.
In addition to the interchange bill, the League is working on nearly 30 other bills in the California State Legislature.
Some notable mentions (below) include a state Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), financial elder abuse liability, public banking, automated decision systems, workplace surveillance, and anti-trust.
“This has been one of the busiest starts to a year in the California legislature,” said Robert Wilson, senior vice president of state government affairs for the League. “Between our proactive sponsored legislation (Assembly Bill 83), multiple top priority issues for credit unions introduced, and the sheer volume of bills concerning our industry and the business community, credit union advocates have our work cut out for us this year.”
