NCUA Board Briefings on SIF and Agency’s 2026-2027 Budget

The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) held its monthly December board meeting on Thursday, reviewing two important topics: a briefing to the board on the share insurance fund, as well as a briefing on the agency’s 2026-2027 budget:

SIF Quarterly Report

  • Share Insurance Fund (SIF) Quarterly Report: The NCUA Board received a staff briefing on the latest SIF financial performance. The SIF’s net income for the third quarter was $100 million, and the equity ratio is expected to be 1.30 percent at year-end.
  • The percentage of insured shares at credit unions with a CAMELS code of 4 or 5 remained at the same level as the prior quarter, while insured shares at CAMELS 3 credit unions decreased by 0.8 percentage points.

2026-2027 NCUA Budget

  • NCUA’s 2026-2027 Budget: The NCUA Board received a staff briefing on the final 2026-2027 Operating, SIF, and Capital Budgets. The board approved the 2026-2027 final budget by notation vote.
  • The final 2026 combined budget (Operating, Capital, and SIF Administrative Expenses budgets) is $316.2 million and 967 positions. This is $2.4 million higher than the draft budget while 20 percent lower than the 2025 budget. The final 2027 combined budget is $325.3 million and 967 positions. This is $19.3 million lower than the draft budget and represents no change to total authorized positions.
  • Changes made to the final budget from the draft version are summarized in the accompanying Board Action Memorandum.
