San Diego County Credit Union recently hosted a series of SDCCU Free Fuel Fridays/Random Acts of Kindness events at gas stations throughout San Diego County, surprising drivers by filling up their tanks at no cost in an effort to support local communities and easing everyday costs, especially with Tax Day approaching.
“Everyday costs like gas can quickly add up for families across our community,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Campbell. “As a not-for-profit financial institution and member-owned credit union, we are committed to finding meaningful ways to support our communities. We’re proud to offer this initiative to help ease the financial pressure many are facing.”
SDCCU’s Random Acts of Kindness initiative reflects the credit union’s ongoing commitment to putting people before profits and supporting the communities it serves.
During the events, SDCCU team members will randomly select vehicles and cover the cost of a full tank of fuel, creating unexpected financial relief during a time when gas prices continue to rise.
The credit union is also committed to promoting the importance of building a strong savings to maintain financial security and overall wellness through its support of America Saves Week, which took place April 6-10, 2026. This year’s theme is “Own Your Financial Story: Small Steps, Big Impact.”
During that week, SDCCU presented educational webinars focused on making small changes to create big savings as part of Financial Wellness Wednesdays.
“Saving is a key part of achieving financial goals and building long-term financial security,” Campbell said. “Developing consistent savings habits as part of your overall financial plan can help put you on the path toward the financial future you envision.”
According to Bankrate’s 2026 Annual Emergency Savings Report, only 47 percent of Americans have enough money saved to cover a $1,000 emergency expense. The same survey found that 3 in 10 Americans hold more credit card debt than savings, but nearly the same amount agree that building an emergency savings and reducing credit card debt are equally important.
These webinars focused on building and protecting your savings and are part of Financial Wellness Wednesdays, an ongoing program hosted by SDCCU to help the community access free financial wellness information.
