Supporting Communities During Government Shutdown

As the holiday season approaches, California’s Credit Unions and Nevada’s Credit Unions know many communities and members you serve find themselves working through financial uncertainty. The federal government shutdown continues in Washington, D.C., with members facing questions about the ongoing availability of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Whether the impasse on Capitol Hill ends immediately or continues, there is a real need among families and individuals who rely on community resources. We want to encourage every credit union to increase your support towards your communities, as some local programs that provide outreach and services are slowly being depleted. Please consider:

  • Organizing a staff or member-driven food and supply drive (non-perishable food and clothing items).
  • Encouraging employee volunteerism at local food banks, pantries or other community service organizations, or even organizing a staff work/volunteer day.
  • Providing direct financial support to local nonprofits.

Caring for Our Community

Together with our Fuel Solutions team, we’re supporting the ArrowHeart Foundation, a nonprofit founded by Arrowhead Credit Union. Our shared efforts are focused right here in the Inland Empire, where our headquarters is located, through non-perishable food and clothing donations that support local food banks and community programs.

Share Your Story With Us

Many of you are leading by example. Please share the details of what your credit union is doing — the initiatives you are funding, the unique ways you are collecting resources, and the inspiring stories of impact you are seeing. Email your stories to MembersImpact@ccul.org.

Together, we can continue to show what makes credit unions special, turning compassion into action to lift up our communities this holiday season. Thank you for your leadership and for the care you bring to everything you do.
